Sarah Polley In Talks To Direct Disney’s Bambi Live-Action Film

Disney’s recent announcement of shuffled movie releases confirms their unwavering dedication to live-action adaptations of their animated classics. Among their upcoming projects is a new rendition of “Bambi,” which has been in the works since 2020. According to Deadline, acclaimed writer/director Sarah Polley, who won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Women Talking” at this year’s awards, is currently in discussions to helm the film.

Polley’s previous works have predominantly focused on smaller-scale projects and documentaries, making her an unexpected choice for a grand Disney tale that will likely heavily rely on computer-generated effects. However, considering the successes of directors like David Lowery with “Pete’s Dragon” and “Peter Pan & Wendy,” in contrast to the challenges faced by more blockbuster-experienced directors such as Robert Zemeckis with “Pinocchio,” there is genuine intrigue surrounding Polley’s potential approach to the project.

Initially, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer were involved in crafting the script, but it has since been taken over by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, known for their work on “A Beautiful Day In the Neighbourhood” and with their Disney credentials from “Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil.” Furthermore, the film is expected to feature music from renowned country star Kacey Musgraves.

Unfortunately, there is no information available regarding the start of production due to the ongoing writers’ strike. Nonetheless, it is reasonable to anticipate the film’s release within the next few years. Fans of “Bambi” should prepare themselves accordingly for this adaptation.
